Announcing the New Orleans Indie Music Digital Collection

The following has reached us from Lisa Hooper, Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, Tulane University (USA):

We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of the New Orleans Independent Music Digital Collection! The New Orleans Independent Music Digital Collection seeks to expose the vast complexity of musical New Orleans by serving as a research platform for local indie music. Works included in this collection must have been produced by New Orleans-based bands, be on independently released albums, and the physical album must already be owned by Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. While patrons can check out and listen to the full album as an isolated artifact of New Orleans musical culture, the New Orleans Independent Music Digital Collection creates an online research platform where users can listen to selected tracks, view album cover art, link to band websites, and explore the complex relationships and collaborations across the local indie music landscape.

Tracks are included in the digital collection by permission of the copyright holder. As the digital collection currently represents only a small fraction of indie albums in the Library’s collections, we expect the digital collection to grow as more permissions are obtained and new albums acquired.
