The mission of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) is to broaden access to music resources through international collaboration and advocacy, to support research, learning, performance and enjoyment. Our members open up the vast world of information and repertoire in their daily interactions with students, educators, researchers, musicians, and the general public. We work to promote and preserve musical heritage among diverse cultures as we recognise the importance of music in the lives of the world’s people. |
A conference was recently held by the Music Library Section - Polish National Branch of IAML.
The Music Library Association will be hosting the first Pan American regional IAML meeting in Orlando, Florida from February 22-26, 2017 in collaboration with CAML, its Canadian counterpart. MLA President Michael Rogan can be credited with the idea to think globally and push MLA to go past its current boundaries. The goals of such a meeting are to share information across borders and broaden librarianship’s horizons.
The Norwegian Institute of Recorded Sound (NIRS) continues its tradition with its Musical Advent Calendar with more old, old… ooold recordings!
On October 11, our colleague Marie Cornaz (Belgium) represented IAML at a musical reception at the European Parliament. This event was organized by the European Music Council, a regional group of the International Music Council (IMC), of which IAML is a member.
The University of Michigan Library has completed digitization of its Women Composers Collection, which contains approximately 2800 musical works by women composers. With the exception of several dozen 18th-century works, the music is almost evenly divided between the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection contains music in a variety of genres; songs and solo piano music predominate, but choral, orchestral, dramatic, and chamber music are also represented. Approximately 80% of the works are in the public domain and thus are available in full text.
