The mission of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) is to broaden access to music resources through international collaboration and advocacy, to support research, learning, performance and enjoyment. Our members open up the vast world of information and repertoire in their daily interactions with students, educators, researchers, musicians, and the general public. We work to promote and preserve musical heritage among diverse cultures as we recognise the importance of music in the lives of the world’s people. |
It was with great pleasure that we recently learned of Jürgen Diet’s election as the member of the Präsidium of the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat). As the President of the German National Branch of IAML (AIBM) Jürgen will represent music libraries in this important body.
Am 21. Oktober 2017 wäre Dizzy Gillespie 100 Jahre alt geworden, einer der größten Jazztrompeter aller Zeiten. Er starb am 6. Januar 1993 in Englewood, New Jersey.
Geboren im Bundesstaat South Carolina in den USA als John Birks Gillespie (später gab er sich den Künstlernamen Dizzy) und aufgewachsen als eines von zehn Kindern, kam Dizzy schon früh mit Musik in Kontakt. Nachdem er zuerst Klavier und Posaune erlernt hatte, entdeckte er sehr schnell die Trompete für sich. Es war die Zeit des Swing und somit auch der Swing-Big Bands und so spielte er in jungen Jahren in zahlreichen solcher Formationen. Er war unterwegs mit Musikern wie Teddy Hill, Earl Hines, Billy Eckstine und Cab Calloway und war auch als Entertainer, Tänzer, Komponist und Arrangeur sehr begabt. Viele seiner Stücke, wie A Night in Tunisia, Groovin‘ High und Woody n‘ You gehören heute zu den meistgespielten Jazz Standards.
Den 18. til 22. juni i år deltog jeg i IAMLs årlige kongres i Riga, Letland. Dette fik jeg mulighed for at gøre fordi, at jeg fik hjælp af DMBF med et stipendium, der dækkede registreringsgebyret, hvilket jeg er meget taknemmelig for. Jeg var så heldig, at jeg fandt et rigtigt billigt fly og også en billig lejlighed midt i byen i Riga som jeg bookede for en hel uge. Jeg valgte derfor, at tage af sted allerede om fredagen den 16. juni og tog først hjem igen til Skt. Hans Aften den 23:e.
As per the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee, workspaces have been set up on the IAML website in order to facilitate communication between IAML congresses.
Workspaces are open to all IAML members, including representatives of institutions. Participants can create wiki pages, add comments, and upload files in order to plan the activities of a section, committee, study group, or project group.
