The mission of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) is to broaden access to music resources through international collaboration and advocacy, to support research, learning, performance and enjoyment. Our members open up the vast world of information and repertoire in their daily interactions with students, educators, researchers, musicians, and the general public. We work to promote and preserve musical heritage among diverse cultures as we recognise the importance of music in the lives of the world’s people.

AIBM Conference 10-13 September 2013

Last week I had the pleasure of participating in the annual conference with the German national branch, AIBM. The conference took place in Universität der Künste, Berlin 10-13 September. I was very impressed by the programme and the meeting was excellently organized. There were no fewer than 190 delegates – about 50 of whom were Berliners. AIBM is the biggest national branch within IAML, with around 230 members. It is also one of the oldest. AIBM was founded 1953 – the same year as the Swedish and UK & Ireland branches.

News from the Petrucci Music Library

This reached us from the Petrucci Library:

The IMSLP/PML archive passed the count of 250,000 free online scores on Saturday evening (last week). It marks a fairly important milestone for us. We also wish to take the opportunity to thank all the MLA members and partner libraries like Sibley, University of Louisville, Gaylord Library, the Danish Royal Library, and the BNF-Gallica and all others whose assistance and kind help have made it possible. Onward to half a million!
