New IAML National Branch in South Korea

Posted on behalf of Hyun Kyung Chae:

The IAML-South Korea branch was founded in October 2014 under the purview of the Ewha Music Research Institute (EMRI).

The EMRI recently completed a 3-year project to establish a database of East Asia’s Educational Music Documents, opening its website, eMUSICdb.info to the public as of November 1, 2014.  One of the unique features of the Ewha Music Data Base (EMDB) is the ability to search by incipits, which has been patented in Korea. As of December 2014, the EMRI embarked on another 3-year research project called "Creating Innovative Music Culture Contents through Collaboration and Individualization," funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea. By working on these research projects, EMRI learned that it is crucial to have a close rapport with researchers throughout the world to learn and share new ideas with one another.  This is the very reason why the EMRI was eager to establish the IAML-Korea branch.

The IAML-South Korea branch seeks to establish and organize research activities on music documentation of East Asia with innovative approaches through the support of experts in the field and collaboration with neighboring fields.

The IAML-South Korea branch plans to host the second international conference on music information and its documentation in Seoul, South Korea, in the spring of 2016.
