Description: This session introduces the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in music and musicology. It will trace the evolution of AI from its early conceptual stages to recent developments that have transformed its role across industries, with a particular focus on music-related contexts. Participants will also examine the social and ethical implications of AI, considering its potential benefits and challenges. The session will conclude with an open discussion, inviting participants to exchange ideas on the future and possibilities of AI in the field..
Speaker Bio: David Rizo, engineer and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Alicante, he will present the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, reviewing its evolution, current applications, and impact across different sectors, including libraries, music, and musicology. He has extensive experience in software development and teaching, serving as a Professor of Computer Media at the School of Art and Design in Alicante and as a part-time lecturer at the University of Alicante in the field of computer music.

Topic: AI and libraries.
Description: The presentation will review the range of ways that AI may be integrated into library work, from using generative AI for day to day tasks, using it to improve library workflows and services, through to promoting AI literacy among users. It will discuss which of these might be priorities and which more long term projects. It will also discuss strategies to raise library AI capability to grasp the opportunities and manage the undoubted ethical and other risks.
Speaker Bio: Andrew M. Cox, Andrew Cox is a senior lecturer at the School of Information, Journalism and Communication, University of Sheffield, UK. He is convenor of the IFLA Special Interest Group on AI and a former chair of ASIS&T's AI SIG. As well as author of many recent peer reviewed journal articles on AI and libraries, he is co-author of the 2025 book, AI for Knowledge, published by CRC press.
