The Finnish IAML Branch (Suomen musiikkikirjastoyhdistys) was established in 1979. At the end of 2022 there were 69 members in total.

Suomen musiikkikirjastoyhdistys has a two-tier membership structure: a member can join only the national association or both the national association and IAML. At the end of 2022 there were 6 individual IAML members and 17 individual national members, and 26 institutional IAML members and 20 national institutional members.

The main activities of Suomen musiikkikirjastoyhdistys include organising the annual spring seminar and publishing the twice-yearly newsletter Intervalli. Suomen musiikkikirjastoyhdistys has traditionally been active in publishing professional literature, and to this day it still continues to publish a volume or two nearly every year.

The 1993 IAML conference was held in Helsinki, Finland in association with IASA and IAMIC.
