Policy on support for invited speakers

This policy applies to speakers invited to participate in the annual Congress by the IAML Forum of Sections or IAML Board. Such speakers should be considered an expert in the field on which they will speak, and should normally be affiliated to a professional area not represented by IAML. They should also usually reside outside of the country organizing the Congress. Applicants who have submitted a proposal via the annual Call for Papers and Posters are not eligible for the support outlined in this policy.

The General Assembly approves each year a budget item to help support travel, accommodation and registration expenses for invited speakers.  The IAML Forum of Sections oversees the distribution of this money, and the awarding of such funding will be at the discretion of the IAML Programme Officer and the IAML Treasurer. The deadline to request support for invited speakers will usually be 1 March each year; for the 2024 Congress in Stellenbosch the deadline is 10 February 2024. Applications may be made by an officer of a IAML Section on behalf of the speaker via the online form. The application should give an outline of potential expenses relating to the speaker's attendance at the Congress. The level of support will depend on the number of applications in any given year, but requests will usually only be partially funded. No honorarium will be offered in addition to this support. There is no obligation to disburse the full budgeted amount every year.

All speakers, regardless of IAML membership status, are expected to register as a delegate in order to participate in the annual Congress
