The Beethoven-Haus in Bonn

Before the conference in Antwerp I had the great pleasure of visiting the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. I have asked Friederike Grigat, Leitung Bibliothek und Digitales Beethoven-Haus, to write a short presentation:

The Beethoven-Haus in Bonn is a memorial site, museum and cultural institution serving various purposes. Founded in 1889 by the Beethoven-Haus association, it studies the life and work of composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The centrepiece of the Beethoven-Haus is Beethoven's birthplace at Bonngasse 20. This building houses the museum. The neighbouring buildings (Bonngasse 18 and 24 to 26) accommodate a research centre comprising a collection, a library and publishing house, and a chamber music hall. Here, music lovers and experts from all over the world can meet and share their ideas. The library collects first and early musical editions of Beethoven's works, arrangements and early music scores of other composers, literature on Beethoven and his cultural surroundings, selected films and recordings, copies and reproductions of manuscripts owned by other libraries. Users from all over the world can study the sources and literature at the library desk in the reading room which is a quartet table from the 18th century. The collections of the library as well as the museum's manuscript, picture and object collections can be accessed by catalogues. First editions, manuscripts and pictures are digitized and commentated in the digital archives, which also serves as a digital work catalogue with linked data for each work.
