AEDOM introduces Matriz: Catalog of pre-1959 recordings from 30 Spanish institutions

The following comes to us from Jon Bagüés of ERESBIL-Basque Music Archives.

RECORD CATALOGUES PRIOR TO 1959 EXISTING IN SPANISH INSTITUTIONS AVAILABLE IN A NEW DATABASE

We would like to share the good news that the index of record catalogues published until 1959 and located in several Spanish institutions is already available on the website of AEDOM – the Spanish branch of IAML: Matriz.

The Project so-called “Matriz” arose from one of the first meetings of the AEDOM’s Commission of Sound Archives, due to the common need of having tools to make easier oldest recordings’ datation.

In a first phase, only catalogues of the first records were collected, those commonly known as shellacs. Later, phonographic cylinders’, piano rolls’ and even microgroove records’ catalogues kept in different centers until 1959 have been incorporated.

This simple database aims to facilitate the location and the search of these documents. The database contains items by some of the most important recording labels, including Columbia, Regal, Odeon, and His Master’s Voice’s (HMV).

There are 30 institutions to which we have to thank their contribution to this catalogue:
