Press Release: Honorary Membership awarded to Liz Hart

Liz Hart, Audio Visual Services Librarian at the London Borough of Enfield Libraries, was made an Honorary Member of IAML(UK & Irl) at its Annual General Meeting held at the University of Leicester on 13 April 2003.

Ruth Hellen (Immediate Past President) proposing the motion said that Liz was probably the longest serving active member of the Branch and an unsung heroine. She had held a number of posts within the Branch including General Secretary and Courses and Education Officer; had been a member of various committees; given evidence to the Whitford Committee on copyright; written articles for Fontes Artis Musicae and Brio; helped develop presentations and courses; and been involved in writing publications such as First Stop for Music and Working with Music in Libraries.

Thanking the Branch for the honour, Liz said "I could have been knocked over with a feather when I heard I was to be made an Honorary Member. I joined in 1968 after studying music librarianship with Brian Redfern and Miriam Miller at the Polytechnic of North London and was encouraged to actively participate in IAML by my first boss at Enfield, Eric Cooper. IAML has done much for me over the years by way of inspiration and encouragement, and I have learnt a great deal and made many friends." She concluded by stressing the growing need to communicate the importance of music librarians.
