Bryant Memorial Prize for 2002 has been awarded to Dr. Rupert Ridgewell for, 'Concert programmes in the UK and Ireland: a preliminary report'. The report was commissioned by the Music Libraries Trust and represents the first detailed survey of concert programmes collections held in the UK and Ireland. It assesses the work already done in this area, identifies collections in libraries and archives, suggests a methodology for creating an online union catalogue of concert programmes, provides estimates of scale and cost, identifies cataloguing and IT requirements, evaluates conservation needs and suggests strategies for the discovery of further collections. The published report is available from the IAML(UK & Irl) Publications Officer, Margaret Roll. Professor John Tyrrell (Chair of the Music Libraries Trust) and Dr. Ridgewell are now working to establish mechanisms to develop the online catalogue of concert programme collections and make this vital research resource accessible to researchers, library professionals and music lovers for the first time in an integrated form. The E.T. Bryant Prize is awarded annually by IAML(UK & Irl) and The Music Libraries Trust for a significant contribution to the literature of music librarianship by a library and information science student, or a librarian in their first five years of music librarianship resident in the UK and Ireland. It was set up in recognition of the enormous contribution Eric ('Bill') Bryant made to the field of professional music librarianship. Dr. Rupert Ridgewell is a Curator of the Music Collections of the British Library, Editor of the IAML(UK & Irl) Newsletter and Chair of the IAML "Working Group on the Indexing of Musical Performances".
