Homepage > About IAML(UK & Irl) About IAML(UK & Irl)The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives & Documentation Centres (IAML) exists to represent the interests of music libraries and librarians through out the world, and to promote co-operation between them. IAML includes a wide range of members who work not only in public and academic libraries but also with professional orchestras, in broadcasting authorities and the music trade. The United Kingdom and Ireland Branch of IAML has nearly 300 members, both personal and institutional, and is very active in promoting the valuable service offered by music libraries. The Branch ensures that music libraries and music librarians are not overlooked in important discussions within the profession and amongst other relevant bodies. It takes an active role in shaping the future of music libraries and in recent years has played a key role in developing a Music Library & Information Plan for the UK and Republic of Ireland. The Branch organises an annual study weekend, meetings and courses on subjects of particular concern to music librarians. These occasions enable members to establish contacts and to share views. The United Kingdom and Ireland Branch publishes its own journal Brio twice yearly. It contains articles on various subjects contributed mainly by IAML(UK & Irl) members , and includes conference reports and other news, as well as reviews of relevant books, music and journals. Additionally, the Branch has a Newsletter which appears between issues of Brio and keeps members informed about items of interest, thus acting as a more informal exchange of news and views. The Branch also produces an Annual Survey of Music Libraries, containing statistical information relating to many of the music libraries in the United Kingdom. Other publications include Access to music: music libraries and archives in the United Kingdom and Ireland: current themes and a realistic vision for the future by Pamela Thompson and Malcolm Lewis (2003) The current IAML(UK & Irl) President is Liz Hart |
