Board of Directors: Sherry L. Vellucci (president), Lenore Coral (past president), David Gilbert (treasurer), Carolyn Dow (secretary), Judy Tsou (member-at-large), MaIjorie Hassen (member-at-large).
IAML-US held its annual business meeting in Louisville in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Music Library Association. Because of increased work commitments, Phil Schreur resigned as Treasurer of the IAML-US Branch. Although Phil only served in this capacity for a brief two years, he made some significant changes that greatly improve the budget reporting process. On the recommendation of the search committee chaired by Linda Solow Blotner, the IAML-US Board appointed David Gilbert, music librarian at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City, as the new Treasurer. The Branch will hold an election for one new member-at-large this fall.
In this year of the IAML Internet explosion, the U.S. Branch mounted its new web site at http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~troutman/iamlus.htm. David Gilbert developed the site and serves as the Web master; Leslie Troutman hosts the site at the University of Illinois.
The U.S. Branch concentrated its activities in three areas this year: outreach, increased branch visibility, and planning for the 2002 Berkeley Conference. In January 2000, the Donated Music Materials Program, coordinated by Marjorie Hassen, sent 827 volumes of books and scores and 350 volumes of periodicals to 86 institutions in 34 countries. These included Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tanzania, and the Ukraine. Materials were donated by 7 institutions and 3 individuals. In addition, travel grants provided small subventions for ten U.S. Branch members to attend the annual conference in Edinburgh.
The Branch also focused on efforts to increase its visibility within the national Music Library Association in the U.S. At the annual MIA conference in Louisville in February 2000, IAML-US mounted a colourful poster session to advertise both IAML and the U.S. Branch. I was assisted in this endeavour by Marjorie Hassen, John Roberts, Debbie Campana, and Alison Hall. The presentation was so successful that we may take it on the road to the Musical Intersections conference in Toronto in November 2000. In addition to the poster presentation, colourful flyers were distributed to advertise future IAML conference locations and to encourage membership.
The third area of activity involved planning for the Annual Conference, which will be hosted by the U.S. Branch in Berkeley, California, August 4-9, 2002. John Roberts leads the planning efforts, assisted by many IAML- US and MLA members. All IAML-US and MIA members are encouraged to join us in this planning activity.
Finally, this year saw our fund-raising efforts begin to pay off far both the Ratliff Outreach Fund ($300) and the Berkeley 2002 Campaign Fund ($2,000). A special note of appreciation is due to the Wicker Family Foundation far its generous pledge of. $5,000 far the Berkeley 2002 Campaign Fund.
