United States, report 2001

The IAML-U.S. Branch directed most of its energies during 2001 to planning for the 2002 international conference in Berkeley, 4-9 August. Lenore Coral was appointed chair of the organizing committee, and she has worked tirelessly to oversee all aspects of conference planning. The other members of the organizing committee were Carolyn Dow (registration and booking), David Sommerfield (audio-visual and computer equipment), Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie and Deborah Campana (exhibits and advertising), Ruth Henderson (outreach), Geraldine Ostrove (fund-raising), Robert Acker (web site), Patricia Stroh (tours), Christine Hoffman (housing assignments) and Ray Heigemeir (volunteer coordinator). Daniel Zager served as guest editor for the "American" issue of Fontes artis musicae (vol.48/4).

The Donated Materials Program, coordinated by Marjorie Hassen, was quite active during 2001. In April a mailing was sent to 86 institutions in 34 countries. The offerings from 11 and one individual included two collections of LPs and cassettes, several sets of RILM (offered directly by the RILM office), one copy of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1980), and approximately 340 volumes of books and scores and 300 volumes, or partial volumes, of periodicals. Materials were sent to institutions in Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, and Turkey.

Finally, elections were held during Fall 2001 for IAML-U.S. president, secretary and one member-at-large. James Cassaro chaired the nominating committee. The new officers listed below assumed their positions at the conclusion of the IAML-U.S. Board meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, 21 February 2002: Jane Gottlieb (president); Sherry L. Vellucci (past president); Carolyn Dow (secretary); David Gilbert (treasurer); Deborah Campana (member-at-large); Laura Dankner (member-at-large).
